Character Personality:

Jane Crocker is a young woman living on Earth in the year 2011. She lives with her (adoptive) father in a suburb in Washington state in the US.

She gets along relatively well with her dad. While she states that when she was younger their household used to be host to scenes of "daily familial strife," now that she has matured somewhat she and her father have a more open and healthy relationship, except, of course, when they don't. For his part, her father seems very supportive and loving, if a bit over-protective. If he is over-protective, he is perhaps justified; as heiress to a prominent (if somewhat fishy) company, Jane has been the target of several assassination attempts. She's inured to this sort of thing by now, however, and chafes under her dad's concern and zealous security measures meant to keep her inside the house. In this situation Jane somewhat abandons her pretensions at emotional maturity; she gets around her dad's restrictions by being (or attempting to be) sneaky and wearing incredibly transparent disguises.

Jane is an intelligent, discerning young woman. She likes mysterties and puzzles and is a fan of many famous detectives such as Jacques Clouseau, Hercule Poirot, and, of course, Problem Sleuth. She also likes sitcoms and practical jokes, which is perhaps her birthright; her great-grandfather was legendary prankster/gin vacuum/indirect cat assassin Colonel Sassacre, and her grandfather was the star of the hit 80's TV show Night Court. She attempts to emulate their style of comedy. She has a fondness for mustachioed funnymen (such as Jeff Foxworthy, Tobias Funke, and Ron Swanson) and, as heiress to the Betty Crocker company, loves baking and cakes. She's a bit on the fussy side; unlike her friends, Jane doesn't swear unless she's very upset, and she's a bit strict about grammar, even going so far as to correct her friends' IM messages, to their annoyance.

She has three best friends that she met over the internet and seems to have known for quite awhile. Roxy Lalonde is her self-described "bffsy 4evah," although their relationship is strained at times. Jane's nature is incredibly skeptical, so she has a hard time believing Roxy's conspiracy-sounding theories. Most of Roxy's claims have actually proven to be true (Roxy does in fact live in the future, her mother was in fact killed by an evil empress from outer space, and the company Jane is heiress to is in fact responsible for eventually taking over the world,) but Jane doesn't realize this and refuses to believe it. This has caused significant strain on their friendship; Roxy has admitted as such, and Jane, for her part, is often casually dismissive of Roxy, writing her off as a drunken conspiracy theorist doing nothing but spouting nonsense.

However, Jane is not too proud to admit when she's wrong. When dramatic proof of Roxy's claims literally explodes in her face, Jane apologizes to Roxy and offers to finally listen to what her friend is saying. Even then she still has a hard time swallowing everything that Roxy tells her, but, when speaking to someone else later, Jane genuinely regrets disbelieving Roxy in the past. The situation is almost touching, until Roxy accidentally causes something else to literally blow up in Jane's face.

Anyway. While Jane loves detectives, investigation, and various other "hard-boiled" pursuits, she is, ironically, more sheltered and naive than most of her friends. For instance, even though she's Dirk Strider's friend and would appear to talk to him regularly (often enough that his eccentric interests and sense of humor don't faze her much), she seems surprised when it's revealed that Dirk may be planning to make a romantic overture to another boy. Roxy describes Jane as naive, but it's also possible that Jane is being stubborn or is only willing to see the world how she wishes it were. This may be true, since the boy that Dirk Strider was possibly interested in romancing is also the boy that Jane has had a long-standing crush on.

Jake English is that very crush. Jane's conversations with Roxy indicate that it's a torch she's held for a long time, and while she's never said anything to him directly, Jake himself at least suspects its existence. However, when Jake directly confronted her about the crush, explicitly asking her "do you like me," she panicked and said no. When he probed further, she continued digging the hole she had made, further evidence of her stubbornness. As the conversation progressed, it became glaringly obvious that she deeply regretted lying to Jake in the heat of the moment, but she was unable to take back what she had said and only listened with increasing mortification as Jake went on to obliviously detail his other romantic concerns.

Teenage dramatics aside, I think this displays several interesting things about Jane's character: while not unwilling to reverse her opinions and statements, it nevertheless takes a lot for her to do so. Only a brush with death made her finally listen to Roxy, and even hearing Jake admit that he could gladly reciprocate Jane's feelings for him (if he thought she had such feelings) could not make her admit to him that she liked him. Such adherence to one's word can be unfortunate (especially when based on misapprehension, like it was with Jake), but in the right circumstances it can also be a virtue.

All in all, Jane's a realist. She's skeptical but not close-minded, naive but also intelligent. She also cares deeply about her friends. Dirk Strider calls her the leader of their adventure, a position which in Homestuck is a mostly ceremonial title, denoting a person who leads with a mix of extreme determination and mild self-delusion. Jane would seem to be a perfect candidate for this; her naivete inspires affection amongst her friends and, despite her fussiness, she obviously cares a great deal for them as well. She is excited when starting on her adventure, and even the threat of physical harm doesn't deter her from wanting to take part.

Character Abilities you would like to expand on further:
As heiress to a powerful baked goods company, Jane is a talented and apparently extremely prolific baker.

Character Weaknesses you would like to expand on further:
Jane is a teenager and relatively inexperienced with any sort of combat, close- or long-ranged.

[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]

What abilities will your character retain in Soul Campaign?
Jane's title in the game of Sburb is Maid of Life. She was once stabbed in the abdomen and seems to have preformed some sort of "lifey thing" that allowed her to survive not only the stab wound but the explosion that followed it. As it's so early on in her adventure it's unlikely that she can actually control these abilities, but in any case these regenerative capabilities would not be retained in Soul Campaign.

What weaknesses will your character lose or gain in Soul Campaign?
Homesickness would be one of them. She is close with her father and will probably miss him.

The wish Death the Kid made to the BREW in 2009 was to “rescue Death City and stop the waves of Madness from overtaking the world.” By whatever means necessary. Pretend you are the BREW. Why would you choose to bring this character to Death City?
Jane is intelligent and fearless when it comes to entering new, even potentially dangerous situations, so she could adapt easily enough and even come to thrive in Death City. She has some problems with personal courage and asserting herself, but the challenge of being recruited to Shibusen's side could provide motivation for her to become more confident and reach the potential she has. She gets along (or makes an effort to get along) with others and would interact well with the diverse group currently living in Death City.

If your character has difficulty verbally communicating or can’t verbally communicate at all (mute or non-humanoid), elaborate on how this will be treated in the game.

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why is your character a Meister and not a Weapon?
I think learning to assert herself is an important part of Jane's character growth, so the Meister role would be a good fit for her. She would understand that the Meister and the Weapon need to be on an equal footing in their relationship, even as one is in a role that directs the other one. That's what being a friendleader is all about, after all.

What is your character’s Meister Ability? Why?
Soul Determination (it would fit in with her old abilities as Maid of Life. Taking a killing blow and living on is something that she has experience with.)
Soul Repair (again, her role as a passive healer who aids allies in battle)
Soul Resurrect (which would allow her to revive one ally who is unconscious and near-death.)

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Describe your character’s soul with six adjectives.
naive, skeptical, stubborn, intelligent, earnest, determined

What does your character’s soul look like? Be creative.
Jane's soul would be light blue/cyan in color, with light blue horns, Jane's own rabbit teeth, and a tail similar to the beast from Problem Sleuth, like the one she wears on her shirt.

[ SAMPLES ]

If I'm understanding all of this correctly,
I've been rudely torn away from the Epic Quest my friends and I were about to impart on. I've been tossed into an entirely different Epic Quest in the middle of this Death City, amidst evil witches and wizards and that sort of thing.
...Sorry to leave a participle hanging there. I'm just a little shaken and surprised by all of this, I guess. :B Although, believe it or not, all of this is not the strangest story I've been fed today. And since I believed that story I guess I can believe this one too. Especially since I can see it with my own eyes...

Of course I'd like to help the city in anyway I can. Plus I have to admit that it will be nice to get away from some things for awhile....

Provide a Third Person sample set during the last minutes on their world and/or their first few moments in the Kishin Chamber (http://soul-mods.dreamwidth.org/3401.html).
What she really wanted was a nap. An angry nap, because she was angry, at Jake for confronting her about her crush, at Roxy for telling her to talk to Jake in the first place, and, not the least, at herself for screwing it all up so badly. It was all so silly, so *childish*, and she of all people had been tripped up by it. Angry naps probably wouldn't solve any of her problems at this point.

There were more important things to attend to. She knew this intellectually, but it was hard to tell her stupid broken heart that, especially when the important things were playing this stupid game and getting bossed around by a pair of glasses.

That was being unfair to Dirk, though, or, more specifically, Dirk's AR. She knew that Dirk was her friend; she liked talking to him and liked talking to his auto-responder, and she *knew* intellectually that she was mad at Dirk for something that really wasn't his fault, but knowing that didn't make it any easier. Actually, it made it kind of worse. It was mortifying to think about, all of it. All she wanted to do was disappear into thin air, to just evaporate away into the ether.

Which was kind of convenient, because suddenly that was what was happening. One second she was sneaking down the hallway, trying to get to the alchemiter without her dad catching her, and the next she was in a strange room in a place she had never been before.
